Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is content strategy?
You have great ideas – but you’re not sure how to share them with your audience (let alone when or where). Whether you’re speaking to five employees or five million clients, what you do with your words has an incredible impact. That’s where a smart content strategy can help you shine.
Isn’t all writing just writing?
It takes a deft touch to switch from dense academic or technical writing to snappy social media material – and if you’re trying to communicate with a clearly defined audience, from scientists to six-year-olds, you’ll want to make sure your content is tailored especially for them.
What types of editing are there?
Editing is hugely varied. Do you need a deep developmental edit to help build out your plot and structure or a lighter line edit to polish your piece? Maybe you want copyediting to target your tone and style or a careful proofread for perfect punctuation. From fact-checking to quality control, each step in the editing process has its own meaning and merit.
What does “DEIB” really mean?
It’s easy to take steps toward diversity – but that’s no good unless you also focus on equity (giving everyone the tools they need to succeed), inclusion (ensuring everyone is integrated and involved), and belonging (celebrating authenticity in all people).
What kind of science do you do?
My best work is in the life sciences, but I cast a wide net. Whether you work with dinosaur bones or dendritic cells, I’ve got you covered. (But, in case it’s helpful, my undergraduate work focused on paleontology and evolution, but my graduate work was in the biomedical sciences.)
Why don’t you post your rates?
Each project is unique and deserves to be treated that way. It’s impossible to anticipate every need, but I’m happy to discuss projects, evaluate timeframes, offer estimates, or even take on sample edits. Let’s connect!
What’s your favorite dinosaur?
There are a lot of excellent dinosaurs out there, but I will always harbor a soft spot for Protoceratops – one of the few “horned” dinosaurs with no horns at all!
