DEIB
Diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility are key to organizational success in the 21st century. Let’s work together to take your development to the next level!
Consultation
Increasing Inclusivity
General, project-specific, or ongoing consultation to support organizations in increasing employee or client diversity, improving equity, and demonstrating proactivity.
At AI4Good Lab, I consulted on improvements to the program’s gender inclusivity and communications to ensure that the full spectrum of eligible applicants felt welcomed.
Enhancing Accessibility
General, project-specific, or ongoing consultation to assist organizations in supporting employees, serving new client groups, and expanding their reach and networks.
At ThinkSpace Education, I consulted on ways to engage with Universal Design for Learning, make teaching sessions and materials more accessible, and provide accommodations and modifications for a wide range of disabilities.
Plain and Inclusive Language
Support in making written and verbal information understandable and accessible to people from all backgrounds – and ensuring that the language you use includes everyone in your target audience.
Developing plain-language abstracts, writing press releases, creating easily understood documentation, simplifying learning materials, editing for sensitivity and inclusivity, and much more.
Training
General DEIB Training
Custom training in general diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and allyship – tailored to your industry, audience, and specific experience and needs.
Sample training plans and slides are available on request. Settings in which I’ve provided training include healthcare, education, tech, academia, and commercial industries.
Subject-Specific DEIB Training
Exploring targeted areas of DEIB based on your audience and needs; specialties include disability, neurodiversity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, intersectionality, and more.
Sample training plans and slides are available on request. Training can cover a single issue or multiple and can be structured around specific goals or actions for continuous improvement.
Disability and Accessibility Training
Providing training sessions to increase awareness and understanding of disability, accessibility, and accommodations, as well as equitable inclusion of disabled clients, students, and employees.
I work with organizations like the Lightyear Foundation, where I provide training sessions for teachers and STEM professionals on including learners of all abilities in STEM education.
Written Work
Through My Eyes
A cover feature article developed with several Black women in medicine to highlight the barriers underserved populations face to entry and success in medicine and academia.
“Through My Eyes” and “The Dream of Diversity” were developed in collaboration with Valerie Fitzhugh, Angelina Knott, Robin Suggs, and Timothy Craig Allen.
The Far-Reaching Impact of Anti-LGBTQ+ Legislation
An article about laws that limit the rights of gender or sexual minorities to access healthcare and the effects such laws have on health equity for all populations.
This article was developed for Today’s Clinical Lab in response to scientific and medical professionals’ concerns about expanding legislative restrictions on LGBTQ+ rights and healthcare options.
Safety: A Universal Right
This article discusses the need to approach laboratory safety from a diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility perspective and offers tips for ensuring that safety and inclusion aren’t mutually exclusive.
Many workplaces struggle to balance their DEIB and accessibility efforts with strict safety or regulatory requirements. With support and creativity, success is often well within reach!
